Our ice fishing trip was a hit! We spent the morning working in the yard and then loaded the truck and headed out. We were almost there when we realized we'd forgotten the ice auger we were going to borrow from my dad, so we stopped in the next town and bought one at Ace hardware, along with an ice scoop. Once again we were on our way. By the time we found where we wanted to fish, added all the extra clothes we'd brought, loaded up our stuff and hiked out to the ice, it was after 4pm. Walking out on the frozen reservoir I stayed close to my daughter. She said, "Mom, this is so cool! I've never walked on water before!" And I realized that we had never taken her ice fishing. That's sad. Brett quickly drilled our holes and the kids added a piece of a worm (gathered during the yard work that morning) and dropped their lines into the water. We set up our camping chairs and just relaxed for bit. Unfortunately it was late and all too soon we had to pack it all up and head back. We didn't catch anything, but we had a good time just the same. It really helped to have the kids lines all rigged up and ready to go. Next time we'll let them pack a few things to do while we're waiting for the fish to bite. But the best part is that we are all looking forward to doing it again!
