Fourth Grade Field Trip Fun

I’ve been trying to think of all the things I need to write about. This is the kid’s last week of school (finally!) and they have been busy trying to finish up all their school work, clean out their tote trays, go on their field trips, and tomorrow is field day. Today I went with my son's class on their field trip. It was really interesting. We toured the State Capital Building, which I had never done before, but it was fun to remember the date dances (ie prom, etc.) that I’ve attended there. It is truly an amazingly beautiful work of art. The craftsmanship is fantastic and awesome. It was fun to see the new Governor’s hall and the House of Representatives and Senate rooms
that I had never seen before.

The Daughter’s of Utah Pioneer’s Museum was a very quick trip. Even though we were there more than an hour, the four 10 year old boys in my charge were so interested in being the first one’s done with the scavenger hunt that we missed looking at just about everything that wasn’t on the list. There are 4 floors to the museum plus 2 floors in the attached Carriage House. With 6 floors to explore, 10-15 minutes each was just not nearly enough. Luckily I’ve been there before, and even if I spent hours and hours there, I couldn’t possibly appreciate each of the thousands of articles they have displayed there.
There is always a reason to come back another day.

We then had lunch at Liberty Park. The best part was taking all the kids to the Seven Canyons Fountain, which is amazing. I didn’t know this place even existed. Liberty Park is huge (80 acres). Inside the park they have created this incredible water feature with seven “canyons” representing the seven that surround the Salt Lake Valley. Each “canyon” has a little “river” that flows from it into the “Great Salt Lake” wading pool. The kids had so much fun! Most were completely soaked. They loved trying to block the water flow with their bodies, sometimes building human dams four kids deep. They splashed and laughed and had tons of fun! They’ve been learning all about Utah history and geography, so this field trip was the capstone on their year.
I wish I had taken my camera 
This is the only picture I could find on the internet. It doesn’t do it justice. You really should take the kids and go experience it for yourselves. The best part is that all of today’s activities can be enjoyed with your family for free!!!

What a great fieldtrip! Isn't the 7 Canyons awesome. We discovered it several years ago, and it is now an annual trip during summer break with cousins.
